EVALUATION OF TWO ECOTYPES OF Brachiaria decumbens UNDER DIFFERENT METHODS OF ESTABLISHMENT, IN BUGABA, PANAMA.
Abstract
Three methods of establishment (shovel, strike, furrow) in two ecotypes of Brachiaria decumbens CIAT 606 nad CIAT 6132 were evaluated in Buena Vista, Bugaba. The design was of random blocks in divided plots with three repetitions. Among the ecotypes and among the planting methods were found significant differences (P<0.05). The best coverage at 120 dds in Brachiaria decumbens CIAT 606 was of 83.3% at strike planting, and in the Brachiaria decumbens CIAT 6132 was of 97.5% when it was found that a best coverage, there was less quantity of weed. The establisment costs per hectarea in furrow, shovel, and strike, respectively. In conditions of minimun farming in similar soils to the Buena Vista and idependent of the species to be planted, the best method from the point of economical view was the done in furrow. This research showed that the good planting could guarantee a good control of weeds.
