Abstract

Phosphatic fertilizer was applied to common Stylo in dosis ranging from 0-300 Kg P2O5/Ha/yr. to study its effect on dry matter yield and chemical composition. Phosphorous applications significantly (P<.01) increased dry matter yields from 2.48 MT/Ha/yr. in the control treatment to 9.44 MT/Ha/yr. in the 300 Kg P2O5/Ha/yr. treatment. Dry matter yield differences between cuts were significant, (P<.01) being highly correlated with rainfall. Dry matter crude protein content was not significantly affected by P2O5 applications. Crude protein seasonal content showed significant (P<.01) differences, ranging from 21.0% in the first cut (5/10/72) to 13.2% in the fourth cut (3/4/73). Dry matter phosphorous content was significantly (P<.01) increased by fertilizer applications, from 0.19% in the control treatment to 0.24% in the 250 Kg P2O5/Ha/yr. treatment. Phosphorous seasonal content showed significant (P<.01) differences, from 0.27% in the second cut (4/12/72) to 0.17% in the fifth cut (2/6/73). Dry matter calcium content was not significantly affected by P2O5 applications; however calcium seasonal content showed significant (P<.01) differences. Dry matter magnesium content was not significantly affected by P2O5 aplplications. Dry matter magnesium seasonal fluctuations showed significant (P<.01) differences, from 0.56% in the second cut (4/12/72) to 0.47% in the fifth cut (2/6/73).
