GENERATION OF BEAN LINES WITH GRAIN OF PINK COLOR FOR THE PANAMANIAN MARKET
Abstract
At the Experimental Station of Río Sereno, 30 F4 populations of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were received from crosses between varieties with new sources of high iron content. These populations were advanced by mass selection until F5-6 and 312 lines of pink bean grain were generated. The objective of the evaluation was to generate lines and varieties of beans with grain of pink color, better tolerance to the web blight (T. cucumeris) and a precocity similar to the Creole variety. An Alpha Lattices design was used for its establishment and subsequent analysis. In the first year, 312 lines were evaluated, of which 62 superior lines were obtained due to their agronomic characteristics. The variance in the different components was disaggregated. In the second year, the best 14 lines that will be evaluated in the regional bean test in different environments of the country were selected. We found 11 superior populations where the highest yields were provided by the lines that had NUA 428 as male progenitor. From these lines five lines with Fe content greater than 80 ppm of the element were found and a line (P-CS-4-10) that contains 90,3 ppm of this element stands out, this corresponds to the crossing of PVA 1111X NUA 430.
