Abstract

The experiment takes place in Alto Quiel, Boquete, province of Chiriqui, Republic of Panama, during June to September 1994, and 1,450 masl. The objetive was determine critical period of weeds competence in lettuce var. Great Lake 366. The experimental design was randomized complete blocks with 14 traitments and four repetitions. The weeded and weedy periods were of 14, 28, 42, 56, 70 and 84 days after transplantation. The tests were all time weedy and all time weeded. The critical period of lettuce crop competence and weed was between 14-42 days after transplantation. The competence was strong in the first 42 days, period in which the loss was very high (100%) in quality, productivity and economic.
